Clive Staples Lewis was born November 29, 1898 in Belfast, Ireland to Albert James Lewis and Florence Augusta Lewis. His father was a minister and his mother was a mathematician. However, his mother was not only good with numbers. She taught a

young Clive, who went by “Jack”, English and Latin from a young age. This would lay the foundation for his future career. His skills were honed at Malvern College, a boarding school he went to around the time his mother died. This education was halted by World War 1, when his studies at Oxford were paused. However, a war injury put Lewis back into the civilian sector, back at Oxford.

Early writings were largely unsuccessful, but Lewis’s mastery of allegory eventually brought him to prominence. “The Screwtape Letters” was his first success in 1926, followed by “The Chronicles of Narnia” in 1955, and many others. The connection between his most popular works is that they are all religious allegories. Following his

writing career, Lewis became an acclaimed professor at Cambridge University. In 1956, he married Joy Davidman Gresham, a woman from New York who had previously read his works. Sadly, she died 4 years after their marriage. Clives Staples Lewis died 3 years after her in Oxford, England on November 24, 1963.
